Surface - Current Selected (Selection is ongoing. New artists are being added.)
Artist & Curator
M. Kara is a contemporary artist and curator whose practice explores identity, memory, and visibility through painting, sculpture, and mixed-media installation. Working with materials such as burlap, thread, rope, sand, fabric, and acrylic, she creates layered surfaces that function as both physical structures and psychological spaces.
Her ongoing Case Series investigates the human condition through fragmented portraits and sculptural forms that exist between concealment and exposure. Layers of material partially obscure the figure, revealing identity as something continuously shaped, disrupted, and reconstructed.
In works ranging from sculptural installations to mixed-media pieces on fabric and reclaimed bedsheets, Kara approaches surface as an archive of memory. Through stitching, layering, and material intervention, she examines what remains hidden beneath the surfaces we construct and what ultimately insists on being seen.
