Surface - Current Selected (Selection is ongoing. New artists are being added.)
For the Nxera Art Gallery exhibition, "Surface," Muhammad Jamil presents a profound exploration of the unseen forces that define our existence. A New York–based, self-taught contemporary artist with over thirteen years of practice, Jamil bridges the gap between raw emotion and formal abstraction through his mastery of oil painting.
In his featured series, Gravity of Lines, Jamil evolves the traditions of classical calligraphy into a universal visual language. While his work mirrors the rhythmic elegance of script, it eschews specific alphabets in favor of a "written energy" that transcends culture. Through thousands of meticulous, intertwined strokes, he creates dense compositions reminiscent of neural networks, root systems, and cosmic formations.
These works capture a delicate tension between chaos and order. Each cluster of lines appears to move under an invisible gravitational pull—colliding, accumulating, and dissolving across the canvas. Rather than dictating a fixed narrative, Jamil invites viewers to treat the act of looking as an act of reading. In this space, meaning is not imposed by the artist but discovered by the observer, allowing the surface to become a mirror for personal reflection, memory, and emotion.
